The tale of Bahram Gur

Bahram Gur

Bahram Gur

Bahram V (Bahram Gur), Sasanian king from 420 to 438, succeeded his father, Yazdegerd I. After his father’s assassination, he gained power by surviving a trial involving two lions. His reign was peaceful, with brief wars against Rome and the Kidarites. Bahram is celebrated in Persian literature, especially Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh and Nizami’s Haft Peykar. Known for his love of hunting, music, and beauty, he canceled taxes and promoted the arts, and was succeeded by his son, Yazdegerd II.
