Kaveh the Blacksmith is one of the most iconic figures in the Shahnameh and a symbol of resistance and justice. A humble blacksmith, he rose against the tyrannical rule of Zahhak, whose serpents had claimed the lives of his children. Kaveh led a great rebellion, raising his leather apron as the banner of freedom, known as the Derafsh Kaviani. His uprising led to Zahhak’s defeat and Fereydun’s victory.
